Tupac was one of the most influential artists of the 90s.
Tupac Shakur had an extensive career before his death in 1996. Of course he is best known as a rapper and social activist, with songs that explored his life and his growing up in an environment surrounded by violence, including racism and social tensions.
Originally a roadie and backing dancer for the group Digital Underground, he went on to release his debut album 2 Pacalypse Now in 1991 to great critical acclaim despite controversies surrounding his lyrics.
His other albums include the likes of Me Against The World (1995), All Eyes On Me (1996), The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory (1996) and after his death R U Still Down? (Remember Me) (1997), Better Dayz (2002) and Pac’s Life (2006)
1996 was not the only time he found himself in danger, however, and in 1991 he was shot at five times in a New York city recording studio, an event that led to the East Coast hip hop rivalry as Shakur suspected other rappers of being aware of the incident in advance. Eventually, he was killed in a drive by shooting in Las Vegas, an incident that caused cardiac arrest and respiratory failure. He was 25.
